This is a petition for a writ of mandamus which shall command the respondent, the Attorney General of the State of Rhode Island, officially to approve a certain bond presented to him by the petitioner.

The petitioner in substance alleges that he is and on the 18th day of January, 1918, was a resident and a duly qualified elector of the city of Cranston; that on said day at a grand committee of the General Assembly he was elected to the office of Sheriff of Providence County for the term ending February 1, 1920; that in accordance with the provisions of the statute governing such matters (Chap.…
