[¶ 1] David N. Grant appeals from his conviction for murder, 17-A M.R.S. § 201(1)(A) (2007), upon a jury verdict in the Superior Court (Kennebec County, Mills, /.). Grant argues that the Superior Court (Studstrwp, J.) erred in declining to suppress statements that Grant made to a detective during a custodial interrogation. The questions presented by this appeal are: (1) whether Grant was in custody when he invoked the right to remain silent; (2) whether Grant clearly invoked that right; and (3) if so, whether Grant validly waived his right to remain silent after the right was “scrupulously…
