LARSON, Justice.
Ted McIntosh, an employee of Lauhoff Grain Company, fell on the job, fracturing the “neck” of his femur at a point just below the hip joint. The fracture was treated, but complications later developed, making it necessary to install a prosthetic hip joint. In the workers’ compensation proceedings which followed, the key issue was whether McIntosh was entitled to benefits for a “scheduled” injury to his leg, Iowa Code § 85.34(2)(o) (1977), or industrial disability benefits under Iowa Code section 85.34(2)(u) on the basis the hip surgery had extended his disability to the body…
