WEST, J.

The petitioner, James G., appeals from the denial of his petition for a writ of habeas corpus. The court granted the petition for certification to appeal. On appeal, the petitioner claims that the habeas court improperly found that his trial counsel provided effective assistance. Specifically, he claims that the court incorrectly concluded that he had failed to establish that he was prejudiced by his trial counsel’s failure to call witnesses to account for the petitioner’s whereabouts during the time period that the assaults resulting in his conviction occurred.
