This civil rights suit under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 charges members of the Chicago Police Department with having entered and *1563searched the plaintiffs’ home, and seized the plaintiffs, in violation of the Fourth Amendment (held applicable to state action by virtue of the Fourteenth Amendment), which, in its first clause, guarantees “the right of the people to be secure in their persons [and] houses, ... against unreasonable searches and seizures.” The jury brought in a verdict for the defendants, and the plaintiffs appealed.
