WEINFELD, District Judge.

These are consolidated suitst arising out of a collision between the passenger vessel, the S.S. Israel, owned.by libelant, Zim Israel Navigation Co., Ltd., and the S.S. American Press, a freighter owned by the respondent, United States Lines Company. The collision occurred in the Main Ship Channel off the northwesterly comer of Governors Island, New York Harbor, on October 29, 1959, a clear, calm night with excellent visibility.
