The Farmers Bank and Trust Company (hereinafter “FBT”) operated in the town of Winchester, Tennessee until the bank was closed pursuant to the order of the Commissioner of Banking for the State of Tennessee on January 6, 1984. Upon the bank’s closure, the plaintiff Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (hereinafter “FDIC”) assumed receivership over all of FBT’s claims, assets and causes of action, and, in its corporate capacity, purchased certain assets of FBT, including FBT’s rights under a Bankers Blanket Bond issued by the defendant St. Paul Fire and…
