After trial before a jury in the Circuit Court for Somerset County, the petitioner, Ramiro Arce Gonzalez, was found *661guilty of first degree murder, first degree assault, and second degree assault. His convictions were based, primarily, on an inculpatory statement he made to law enforcement officials. Before trial, the petitioner sought to suppress the statement on the basis that he did not receive warnings in accordance with, and as required by, Miranda v.
