Plaintiff-appellee Robert Doyle, as an engineer at Textron, Inc., was insured for long term total disability benefits under a group policy issued to Textron by defendant-appellant Paul Revere Life Insurance Company (Paul Revere) pursuant to an employee welfare benefit plan. The plan is subject to the Employee Retirement and Income Security Act (ERISA), 29 U.S.C. § 1001, et seq.; the policy was managed by Paul Revere.
