This is a reference upon 1,400 claims made against S. W. Straus & Co., Incorporated, in receivership. In 1882 Frederick W. Straus established the business of selling first mortgages on small improved property in Chicago. In 1895 he was joined by his son, Simon W. Straus, and the firm of S. W. Straus & Co. was organized. In 1905 the Illinois corporation established a sales office in New York city. In 1916 S. W. Straus & Co., Incorporated, was organized under the laws of the State of New York.
