Plaintiff in error, John Peters, was found guilty of bribery in the circuit court of St. Clair county- and sentenced to the penitentiary. He has brought his case to this court on writ of error.

Peters was the proprietor of a saloon in the south-eastern part of St. Clair county. Charles Webb, the State’s attorney of that county, accompanied by various officers and others, visited the saloon one evening about October 3, 1913, and caused the arrest of Peters for keeping and operating a slot machine.
