Plaintiff, Barbara Rainey, brought a negligence action in the circuit court of Marion County to obtain damages for personal injuries she sustained when her automobile collided with the rear of a street-cleaning machine owned and operated by defendant, the City of Salem (the City). Following a jury trial, a verdict was returned in favor of plaintiff and against the City. The jury determined that the total amount of damages suffered by plaintiff as a proximate result of the collision was $226,000.
