On December 17, 1957, the jury in this action for false arrest and imprisonment, returned a verdict for the plaintiff-appellant and against the defendant-respondent in the sum of $3,000. This verdict was filed and entered in the judgment book on December 18, 1957. The subsequent series of events in chronological order were these: The plaintiff filed a notice of entry of judgment and a copy was mailed to the attorneys for the defendant, at Fresno, on December 18,1957.
