On December 3, 1934, the grand jury, impaneled in the criminal court of Cook county, returned an indictment against Gustaf Lindquist, Abraham H. Karatz and five others charging that they conspired to obtain notes, mortgages, etc., belonging to the Abraham Lincoln Life Insurance Company, an Illinois corporation, of the value of $13,000,000 by false pretenses and to embezzle $25,000, the property of the insurance company. Lindquist and Karatz were tried together, the jury returned a verdict finding them both guilty, fixed their punishment at imprisonment in the penitentiary, and imposed a fine…
