The plaintiffs1 have appealed from the action of the defendant zoning commission of the city of Waterbury in amending several sections of the Water*586bury zoning ordinance, the effect of which is to prohibit multiple family dwellings in certain commercial zones. The trial court upheld the commission’s decision and accordingly dismissed the appeal. After the Appellate Court had granted the plaintiffs’ petition for certification for review pursuant to General Statutes § 8-8 (o), we transferred the appeal to this court pursuant to Practice Book § 4023.
