On January 18, 1930, Edward G. Bead, of Kalamazoo, signed an agreement for the purpose of carrying out the formation of a corporation designated as Kalamazoo Bancshares, Inc., with the object of acquiring the outstanding shares of the capital stock of the Kalamazoo National Bank & Trust Company, the Kalamazoo Trust & Savings Bank and the Kalamazoo Company.
