Petitioner, Elzbieta Klawitter, appeals an order of the Board of Immigration Appeals (“BIA” or “Board”) of respondent, the Immigration and Naturalization Service, denying her request for asylum under 8 U.S.C. § 1101(a)(42).

Respondent is a 45-year-old female, who is a native and citizen of Poland. She entered the United States at Detroit, Michigan, on July 23, 1988 when she was admitted as a nonimmigrant visitor for pleasure authorized to remain here until January 22, 1989.
