Masari Investments, LLC (“Masari”) acquires consumer debt from original creditors *531after default. Masari retains attorney Joseph Musumeei and his law firm to represent it in debt collection efforts. On December 11, 2007, Musumeei sent a letter to Renia and Jeff Bogner demanding payment of a debt purportedly owed to Masari. The letter stated that any dispute over the validity of the alleged debt must be made in writing:
