In this contested private placement adoption proceeding, petitioners seek the adoption of a nonmarital female child born on January 12, 1979. Petitioners are the infant’s natural mother and her husband, whom she married on September 8, 1984. The opposing respondent is the infant’s putative father. It is contended by petitioners that the consent of the putative father to the granting of the application is not required, since he does not fit within the criteria set forth in Domestic Relations Law § 111 (1) (d) and he is disqualified based on abandonment…
