The plaintiff, an employee of defendant, was injured while operating a punch press used to stamp sheets or plates of metal. The press was driven by electric power and was set in motion by the movement of a pedal. The design of the machine was that when the operator placed her foot upon the pedal, the upper die of the press would descend upon the metal to be stamped and then ascend, and would not again descend, except by further movement of the pedal by the operator.
