At a trial of the defendant for the crime of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle in the third degree (Vehicle and Traffic Law § 511 [1]), the People have submitted the abstract of the defendant’s driving record to establish that the defendant’s license to operate a motor vehicle was suspended as of May 2, 1996. The People aver that this document is a public record which can be admitted pursuant to the statutory hearsay exception created by CPLR 4520 and the common-law public document exception.
