The city of New York, through the Department of Welfare, the Board of Child Welfare, the Department of Hospitals, and the Department of Correction, is performing social service in a wide field. It is common knowledge that relief of the needy, furnished through those departments, has constantly increased during the last decades, and especially since 1931.
