The plaintiff, Dennis Eagan, brought an action in the circuit court of Cook County against the defendant, the Chicago Transit Authority (hereinafter referred to as the CTA), seeking to recover damages for negligence. • The CTA filed a motion to dismiss the complaint pursuant to section 2 — 619 of the Code of Civil Procedure (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1987, ch. 110, par. 2 — 619). Following a hearing, the trial court granted the CTA’s motion and dismissed the complaint.
