Defendant, Barbara Boykin, was charged by complaint with the misdemeanor offense of battery, in violation of section 12 — 3 of the Criminal Code of 1961 (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1981, ch. 38, par. 12 — 3). Following a bench trial in the circuit court of Cook County, she was found guilty and sentenced to six months’ probation. She subsequently moved to reduce her sentence, requesting supervision in lieu of probation.
