The principal issue on appeal in this case is whether the Connecticut Unfair Trade Practices Act applies to the purchase and sale of securities. The plaintiff, William A. Russell, brought suit against the defendants, James J. Reid and Dean Witter Reynolds, Inc. (Dean Witter), to recover for losses he sustained as a result of a securities transaction that the defendants had arranged.
