Appellant was tried before a general court-martial, military judge alone, at Naval Legal Service Office, Norfolk, Virginia, on 9 January 1979. Pursuant to his pleas, he was found guilty of willful damage of an E-2C Aircraft engine (damage equal to $38,760.00) and four specifications of unauthorized absence, in violation of Articles 108 and 86, respectively, of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, 10 U.S.C. §§ 908 and 886.
