John William Ludwig (Ludwig) was indicted and tried for murder and use of a firearm during the commission of murder. The jury found Ludwig guilty of the lesser-included offense of voluntary manslaughter and use of a firearm in the commission or attempted commission of murder. On appeal, Ludwig contends the trial court improperly responded to a jury question during deliberations, which misled the jury into rendering an inconsistent verdict.
