WIDENER, Circuit Judge:
This action arises under the 1972 amendments to the Longshoremen’s and Harbor Workers’ Compensation Act of 1927,1 a remedial statute governing suits by longshoremen injured upon navigable waters in the course of their employment. Plaintiff Stanley Edmonds, a longshoreman employed by Nacirema Operating Company, which was not a party to this case, was injured while unloading rolling cargo containers from the S. S.
