Under the will of Thomas Wadsworth, who died in 1791, while a citizen of Charleston, in this State, certain lands within the limits of this commonwealth were devised to trustees to maintain and support a free school for poor children residing within the limits of Major Dunlap’s Battalion of the Saluda Regiment within Laurens County.
