OPINION

Defendant, Darious M. Bowens, admitted at his January 2009 trial that he stabbed his girlfriend, Belinda Butler, 23 times in her chest, back, and arms. Despite this admission, he denied that he intended to kill her. Apparently unpersuaded, a jury convicted defendant of attempt (first degree murder) (720 ILCS 5/8—4, 9—1(a)(1) (West 2008)), aggravated domestic battery (720 ILCS 5/12—3.3 (West 2008)), and two counts of aggravated battery (720 ILCS 5/12—3 (West 2008)).
