This case concerns the legality of a proposed consolidation of two nationally chartered commercial banks operating in adjoining regions of Connecticut. The United States brought a civil antitrust action challenging the *658consolidation under § 7 of the Clayton Act, 38 Stat. 731, as amended, 15 IT. S. C. § 18.
