Jackie Vance, an inmate at Dwight Correctional Center (“Dwight”), brought suit under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 against three prison officials. She claimed that a prison guard used constitutionally excessive force to restrain her and that two prison officials acted with deliberate indifference to her serious medical needs, in violation of the Eighth Amendment of the Constitution of the United States.
