Two groups of former employees of the now-defunct Federal Asset Disposition Association (FADA) sued FADA’s receiver, the Resolution Trust Corporation (RTC), in federal district court. Relying on state law, plaintiffs alleged that they had been denied payments due them under FADA’s employee benefit policies. The district court held that plaintiffs’ state-law claims were preempted by the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974 (ERISA), 29 U.S.C. § 1140 et seq. See Alley v. Resolution…
