General Statutes (Rev. to 1993) § 38a-371 (c)1 requires Connecticut municipalities to provide underinsured2 motorist benefits for municipal employees who, in the course of the performance of their duties, sustain injuries while driving a municipal passenger vehicle. General Statutes (Rev. to 1993) § 14-1293 and § 38a-371 (c)4 permit a municipality, after notifying the insurance commissioner, to fund such benefits by becoming a self-insurer.
