The City of Charlotte according to the census of 1950 has a population of 133,212. The Southern Railway Company operates trains over three lines of railroad tracks through the City, the main line in the west side of the City, a freight line in the eastern portion of the City, and a cross-line connecting the main line with the line from Charlotte to Columbia and Augusta.
