Pursuant to a collective bargaining agreement, the *286Massachusetts Correction Officers Federated Union (union) sought arbitration regarding a series of grievances initiated on behalf of its members. The sheriff of Bristol County (employer) rejected the arbitration demands, asserting that the union had failed to comply with procedural requirements established by the agreement.
