Plaintiff, Louise Bessler, a probationary teacher in Chartered School District No. 150 of Peoria County, filed this action in the circuit court of Peoria County against the defendant board of education alleging that her employment with the district had been improperly terminated. She sought an injunction and the issuance of a writ of mandamus reinstating her as a teacher, and a declaratory judgment that she had attained tenured status.
