The plaintiffs claim a lot of ground in the city of St. Louis, as representatives of Paul Guitard, an ancient inhabitant of that city, under a confirmation in the act of Congress of the 18th of Jqne, 1812, for the settlement of land claims in Missouri. 2 Stat; at Large, 748.
The record shows, that Guitard, from 1785-6 till the common fence which surrounded and protected the field lots and commons of that city was thrown down, in 1797 or 8, claimed and cultivated a parcel, of land, one arpen in width and forty in depth, in the Cul-de-sac prairie.
