Defendant Jesse James, Jr., was charged by indictment with attempt (aggravated criminal sexual assault) (Ill. Rev. Stat. 1987, ch. 38, pars. 8 — 4(a), 12 — 14(a)(1)) alleging defendant, while displaying a knife, attempted to rip the clothes off of K.S. with the intent to place his penis in her vagina. Following a jury trial, defendant was convicted of this offense and sentenced to 25 years’ imprisonment.
