The accused was brought to trial on charges that he stole various craft tools and model kits from the hobby shop of the Naval Receiving Station, Treasure Island, California, and later attempted to set fire to the shop in order to conceal the theft. Before entry of the accused’s plea, defense counsel moved to dismiss the charges on the ground that the accused had been deprived of a speedy trial. The motion was denied.
