Before the Court is Defendant’s “Motion for Judgment of Acquittal or, in the Alternative, for a New Trial,” pursuant to Rule 29 of the Federal Rules of Criminal Procedure1 and Rule 135 of the Rules Governing the Territorial Court of the Virgin Islands. Defendant’s motion raises several issues and highlights an ongoing debate regarding the interplay in the Territorial Court between the Federal Rules of Evidence and the Uniform Rules of Evidence, as adopted by the Virgin Islands Legislature.
