OPINION

BLATZ, Chief Justice.

Appellant Terri Gustafson appeals from a Minnesota Court of Appeals decision affirming her convictions for first- and second-degree assault for shooting her husband in the leg. Gustafson sought a new trial on the grounds that the jury should have received instructions on the defenses of self-defense and accident, or that her attorney’s failure to request such instructions was ineffective assistance of counsel.
