Christopher Zamora (“Zamora”), a Houston police officer, sued the City of Houston (the “City”) for unlawful retaliation under Title VII. A jury found the City hable and awarded Zamora damages, some of which the district court vacated. The City appealed, challenging the district court’s refusals: to grant judgment as a matter of law for the City on Zamora’s retaliation claim, to vacate the jury’s past compensatory damages award, and to grant a mistrial or a new trial based on the jury’s discovery of a prior jury’s notes on the case.
