The State of New Jersey instituted this action in the Chancery Division of the Superior Court pursuant to the provisions of the Escheat Act (L. 1946, c. 155, as amended and supplemented; N. J. S. A. 2:53-15 to 32; now N. J. S. 2A:37-11 to 28), alleging that the Otis Elevator Company had in its custody or possession certain personal property, described in general terms only, that had escheated to the State.
