On June 17, 1914, involuntary proceedings in bankruptcy were begun against the Kinnane Company, a merchandising corporation at Springfield, Ohio, and on the same day a petition for the appointment of a receiver was filed. On or about July 6th following the alleged bankrupt made an offer of composition under section 12 of the Bankruptcy Act (Act July 1, 1898, c. 541, 30 Stat. 549 [Comp.
