PARKER, Justice.

Defendant, upon proper bills of indictment, was convicted of one count of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and two counts of second-degree murder in violation of N.C.G.S. § 14-32(a) and N.C.G.S. § 14-17, respectively. The trial judge imposed consecutive sentences of fifteen years’ imprisonment, forty-five years’ imprisonment, and life imprisonment. On defendant’s appeal the Court of Appeals found reversible error in defendant’s second-degree murder convictions and ordered a new trial. The State’s petition for discretionary review of…
