The People’s theory is that the woman defendant, Addie Exum, hired the man defendant, Lovell Landers, to kill her husband, Irving Exum, in order that she might get his insurance money. The fact of the killing of Exum by shooting is established beyond a reasonable doubt. The case against Landers is largely established by the evidence of a highly disreputable young woman, Annie Caruso, of his admissions to her.
