The defendant, Pear lie Johnson, Jr., was convicted of rape and sentenced to 15 years imprisonment. This appeal followed.

According to the victim, at approximately 8:00 a.m. on August 31, 1981, the defendant appeared at the victim’s door; he displayed a pistol, forced open the door, and then, threatening to kill her if she did not comply with his requests, raped her. At some point after the act of intercourse, the victim grabbed a wine bottle located next to the bed, and struck the defendant on the back of his head.
