The merchandise involved in the present case consists of- scarfs, squares, doilies, tidies, and similar articles of Japanese openwork or drawnwork, composed in chief value of flax. The articles are ornamented by having threads withdrawn from the woven fabric and the resulting open spaces partly filled with figures and designs formed by needlework, using for this purpose added or foreign threads — that is to say, threads other than those which composed the original fabrics.
