Robert E. Lee, the petitioner-appellant, appeals from the district court’s denial of his petition for a writ of habeas corpus. 701 F.Supp. 143. In separate trials, Lee was convicted of the murder and attempted armed robbery of William Hawbecker (“Hawbecker trial”) and the armed robbery and attempted murder of Peter Larson (“Larson trial”). In a consolidated appeal, the Illinois Appellate Court reversed Lee’s conviction for the attempted armed robbery of Hawbecker, but affirmed his other convictions.
